STARTING AN ONLINE STORE

Hi guys.  There is a poster getting **** on by the Live-5 on the Nazi board that wants some guidance  on where to start a site.  I can't help, since I don't have an online store.  Can anybody recommend a starting point for them?   Maybe for me too.  I want a store!

I don't see the thread. Was Clink so offended she pulled it?

Cliniclady2000 is a toothless Liveworld employee.

Hi Dan.  Clinic and Slandy are "buddies".  Sandy's GLAD that last toofer is gone.  Less painful now.  There is a thread by Tap, called PP's UNWARRANTED ACTION............  She's had it with PP and wants to know about having her own site.

We really should start doing what we can to help the people we lure away from Paypal.   We need to post some helpful info here for everybody.

Probably too late for that. First impressions are hard to overcome.

Considering the amount of people that view this site every month, I'm not so sure that it's to late.  I suggest to noobs on the nazi board to come here all the time.   Besides, isn't the glass always half full?

To skeeter if the glass is half full, he'll drain it and ask the bartender for another.

Ice,

The easiest way to start an online store is by searching for a webhost that has cpanel.

Cpanel is basically software that is run on the server you have hosting from.

Within cpanel you can Install a store, add a guestbook, create a public forum and more.

This does require some knowlege of html, and PHP.

I can help further if you need.

Just let me know!

Hey biotch, I'd call you clinic, but that would be insulting!  How can you tell a good cpanel from a bad one.  What is the criteria?  Do I know?

Ice,

starting an online store is a little in depth.

In my opinion using one of those cookie cutter companies to make the store for you is inneffective and costly.

 http://telepoleusa.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21

That is an example of a store that you can do for merely nothing.

It uses software by OSCommerce.

Please understand that if you are confused, you're supposed to be.

There are no easy answers to opening an online store.

If you have a friend that know HTML and PHP they can really help.
If you need some assistance beyond that maybe I can help.

I could set up your store and get it going. But there are costs involved.

You need a domain name ie: Icehatesclinic.com     about $12 a year
You need a webhost (a server to host your store)  about $12 a month
Setup and design (free if you do it) otherwise about $150-$300

The above is cheap compared to the cookie cutters (remember, I mentioned those)
They charge about $70 a month, every month.

It gets pretty involved and rather technical.

Sorry but domain 1.99 a year first year.
Then 9.95 each additional year billed annually.
Via Yahoo domains. I think even go daddy my be cheaper or
check out this deal:
http://www.tuliphosting.com/

Server for your site 58.88 a year (that's 4.99 a month)

Merchant account: No set up fee. 25.00 a month flat fee that
is reduced the more peeps use it and 2.39% + .25 cents transaction fees.
Very reasonable.

Free temples to set up a site or get me to help you with the HTML.

Simplest shopping cart is a third party one I know of.
Mal's
http://www.mals-e.com/home.php
8.00 a month paid quarterly for the non Free side that lets you pass
your customers on to the merchant account gateway.
Real simple form you place on your web pages.
It's a shopping cart or Add To Cart button.

You could also use Google Payments. Easy to set up
no monthly fees 2% and $0.20 per transaction.
http://checkout.google.com/sell

Mals has integrated Google or you just place GP
cart buttons on your web pages.
Going that route you illuminate 96.00 a year in Mals fees.

So just to get started with all the above:
1.99
58.88
25.00
24.00

Total:109.87

Or stright GP
1.99
58.88
Total: 60.86

I'd stay away from cookie cutters too.
I've been playing with free osMax and OSCommerce free cart and Zen.
Both way to technical even for me who has designed and ran an e commerce site for
over 7 years and is my only source of income.

Give me a yell give I'll hook you up.

Are we roasting PP?   If I see a little while nurses hat on that grill I'm leaving.  I don't think you can grill hot enough to kill all the germs.
