I run a couple of pet-friendly forums and this happens to us whenever the host is working on their sites (upgrading, etc). Sometimes it will last a few hours and sometimes it will last for days.
Being that the OP said its happening on all LW forums he/she visited, I would think it is a LW problem in which all accounts haven't been updated yet.
Once on our forum, some ppl were having trouble, some weren't. I contacted the host and it was because it took a matter of days for the new upgrades to reach all members (not just our forum, but members of all forums hosted by them). It has to do with when the members ISP accepts those upgrades.
If this is the case, the OP's problem will fix itself shortly.
