Seems Google Payments (officially called Google Checkout, I believe) is alive and running well!! Some said they couldn't find anything but evidently StarbucksStore.com, Buy.com, and Jockey.com did!..lol They are already signed up.
The test phase includes those who were "invited" to sign up and test it (as I mentioned on the eBay board and some people just can't grasp that fact). They are even in talks with PayPal about accepting PayPal payments, which is clearly the first step in moving in on them. By accepting PayPal payments it markets themselves to PayPals customers and makes them aware that GC exisits, it will make some customers bypass Paypal and just sign up with GC, it will allow eBay buyers to use GC, and it will make the Paypal supporters think that GC must be safe and secure if the almighty PayPal uses them - which will in return secure GC in every market available so that they can safely become the next consumer to consumer transaction service. SMART MOVE! Here is the article:
Google wants to handle your online checkout
Posted 6/29/2006 12:01 AM ET
By Laura Petrecca, USA TODAY With the launch of an online payment service, Google hopes consumers will adopt a new e-commerce creed: In Google We Trust.
Google Checkout, to be announced Wednesday, will let security-conscious consumers store financial data and credit card numbers with Google and check out at participating online retailers without giving them the data. Next to the retailer's button to go to its checkout will be a button letting the buyer choose Google Checkout instead.
Checkout aims to be a secure middleman between the retailer and credit card companies, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
"We're doing the online transaction. We don't pass full credit card details to the merchant," says Salar Kamangar, vice president of product management.
He wouldn't say how many e-tailers had signed but cited StarbucksStore.com, Buy.com and Jockey.com.
Kamangar said a primary goal of Checkout is goodwill with retailers who buy its AdWords search ads, the little ads that show up with Google search results. The advertiser chooses the search keywords that cause the ad to appear.
"We're not trying to build Checkout as a new revenue stream," Kamangar says. "We're trying to increase purchases. If we can make checkout easier, we'll be able to increase our ad business."
As an incentive, Goggle will cut the online store's Checkout fees by a sum 10 times its search-ad spending. The Checkout fee for retailers is 2% of each transaction plus 20 cents for processing. Google, however, pays any credit card company fees — which can be more than 2% for small businesses.
One giant credit card issuer, Citigroup, will promote the service to its card holders. "Our objective ... is to encourage our card holders to do the majority of their Web spending through their Citi Cards," says Rob Rosenblatt, executive vice president of e-business for Citi Cards. "If card holders feel more secure, it dramatically increases the likelihood that they'll make the transaction."
Citigroup already offers a secure online buying system that lets its card holders create a single-use number for an online purchase rather than giving the e-tailer their real Citi Cards number.
Google says it also is in talks with online payment service PayPal to let Checkout handle payments by holders of PayPal accounts, which connect with its users' credit cards and banks.
Will consumers trust in Google or see it as Big Brother? "I can see some being fearful to give information to Google," says Greg Sterling of Sterling Market Intelligence. But he says others may find the Google name reassuring. "It might encourage some people to do a transaction they might not ordinarily do."
All of their links are not working just yet. Evidently they are integrating this as I'm searching..lol. Here is a link to the "tour" of how its going to work (looks nice too!)
Protect yourself from fraud. Our fraud prevention tools stop invalid orders from reaching you. And our Payment Guarantee policy helps protect you from chargebacks.
Unlike PayPal, maybe the fraudulent buyers will be stopped BEFORE items are shipped - at least in some cases. This is nice to see and will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Changed my name. Got tired of the other one taking up the whole page..lol. Now I have to figure out how to delete the other account.
Man, whats up with some of the people on the eBay board? Are they dumb or what? Granted, we've all had very little information to post about until today but dayum they are stupid sometimes.
Mimilovescrappy is about the worst. I bet that biddy would talk to herself in a mirror if it didn't break first. Blah! Blah! Blah! STFU already! She reminds me of why I never got married. Dumb as a rock and a yapper as well.
Scorehog, wolf in sheeps clothing. Flops their stories worse then Bush did. Reminds me of another poster who isn't there anymore.
I_am_hiding, better be glad he is
Profdata, more like NO data
eBay does cater to a flea market crowd and there is nothing wrong with that except for the fact that you get people who can't read and understand simple English who are trying to have intelligent conversations. There should be a requirement of an IQ of AT LEAST 12 before you can post over there. That would take care of all the above and then some.

Profdata is a moron and obviously a paid liveworld employee. He/she/it was recently making incorrect statements and was unable to back up the statements. Several of us called her/he/it out on these statements and Profdata disappeared, only to return recently posting in a slightly different tone.
It appears Liveworld had to pull Profdata to the side and retrain them.
The process has begun and I will be integrating on my website Google Checkout along side my MA options.
In just a short time.. I will be telling paypal cya me thinks.
I even think I can use it on ebay for the few sales I still get there by simply sending an e mail to the winning bidder buyer with a check out button. (Will have to see how I can do that after banking verification).
Boy are they reaching. They ARE VERY afraid and have been told to get out there and post anything they can to try and discredit the new Google Payment service.
If I were any of you, I would let them rant and rave all they want.
Remember ACTION speaks louder than words.
As they are running their mouths and putting a fearful SPIN on this new service I suspect behind the scenes, millions are signing up with Google Payments as we speak.
I've been a long time advocate and telling people to get their own website UP and running for years.
eBay IS NOT the place to be any more anyway.
Anyone here who relies solely on ebay better heed this truth about e commerce and better get moving as far away from ebay and paypal as you can.
The hammer IS going to come down soon and you don't want to be there when it strikes.
You can even load everything and anything you have to sell on Google Base right NOW for FREE.
Once your signed up for Google Payments and approved you can have straight BUY NOW buttons on all your wares and no ebay and no listing FVF's.
Google is now the power house in the game and Yahoo is positioning themselves to buy ebay.
If your smart... you will go with the flow and keep moving as far away from scam central as possible.
The shills over are not so stupid that they don't see the handwriting on the wall. They are just acting and posting that way because they are directed to do so. Hell most of them are probably already singed up with GP now too. (If they even really sell online)...
STOP AUGURING WITH THE PP SHILLS AND GET BUSY GETTING SET UP NOW DURING THE SLOW SUMMER MONTHS.
THE BUSIEST SELLING SEASON WILL BE HERE QUICKER THAT YOU THINK. The masses of buyers are as feed up with ebay as the sellers.
DO IT NOW.
You will be glad you did.
PS on a personal note. Thank you admin for allowing me to get my hijacked (by lieworld shill) xppman ID back.
