Consumer affairs minister Craig Foss opened the ScamScape forum in Wellington this week discussing shill bidding - and confirming it is set to be explicitly outlawed under new consumer law.
"Shill bidding is a criminal offence in the new Consumer Law Reform Bill," Foss told ScamScape. "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated."
Talking more broadly, Foss noted that the value of online fraud in New Zealand is reported as being in the 100s of millions of dollars.
