While I doubt that Anonymous and the Boycott, by it's self, had too much to do with the share price dropping, (since the markets were mostly all down) it sure looked to me like Paypal may have borked the account closing procedure pages, and twitter may have censored the hashtag #OpPayPal.
JMO, focusing on that share price may not be the best indicator of any Boycott success anyway, (especially after just the first day.) since we all well know that those things can and will be influenced/manipulated by a number of forces or entities.
Last figures I saw were anywhere from 35 to 41K accounts closed. Not sure where the numbers are coming from, but I doubt Paypal is giving out the info. LOL.
As you can see from the chart, ebaY's share prices more-less are following the same curve as the main indicators, although there is no denying the sharp drop at the beginning of day one.
I'm not so sure that Anonymous has taken anytime to study up on ebay and paypal. It would also seem that not too many of Anonymous are ebaY users IMO. Looking back at the Boycott which started in February 2008, the share prices went way down even having intraday lows below $10.00. That was only after bad news report after bad news report, and a fair bit of noise from those ebaY members opposed to Donahoe's turnaround plan. At some point something seemed to have happened and a good deal of the criticism and bad reports ended, along with most of the 'noise". Ahem
JMO, it will take more than whatever they are doing now to have any meaningful results, especially in light of factors such as ebay's own buyback team and their 'warchest', not to mention their very own "Black Ops" dept, along with a host of other factors. Again, focusing on the share price alone probably isn't the best gauge. etc.
However, looking around a bit, I see that Anonymous is hardly done sowing wild oats. Some of their most recent escapades are no doubt going to lose them support and cast them back in a bad light.
JMO, their OpPayPal Boycott won't be a big success, due to them likely moving on to other "Ops". It seems to already have lost momentum, but we shall see...
They would also need to get rank and file ebaY members on their side as well. The odds of that happening are pretty small IMO. Let's face it ebaY members are motivated by greed, and they don't mind that fraud, BS, abuse and strongarm policies etc as long as they are stuffing their own pockets.
