Illinois opens online bidding for surplus property

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Bidding has begun on surplus vehicles, electronics and equipment offered by state and local governments on an Illinois auction website called iBid.

Many of the surplus items on iBid will be on display during the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. Fairgoers can register to bid and inspect items in the iBid booth at the Grandstand next to ticket office.

The iBid site resembles eBay. It has sold more than $3 million worth of property since it was launched at the state fair in 2003.

This year, items include a scooter for the disabled, cell phones, laptops, a motorcycle, a garden tractor and a drill press. Bidding closes Aug. 22.
