Anyone else get this email? Looks like a former Paypal employee did a no-no and took a Paypal customer database with him. I am being offered a new merchant account provider by an ex-Paypal employee. Anyone else get one of these emails? I am not thrilled that my business information is now outside of Paypal. Is there no such thing as confidentiality? Greetings from Brian, former Enterprise level PayPal Account Manager! I just wanted to reach out to you today with some important information. First let me say, I WANT YOUR BUSINESS and I want to save you money to grow your business. PayPal is not the only game in town.. I have moved on from PayPal, taking on a promotion and I am now with a new processor, XXXXXX (www.XXXXXXX.com). I did a lot of research on processors, what each could offer, company reputation, etc. and decided that TransFirst had the best offer over all as a CC processing option. I know that you have had issues in the past with product stability, declines, error codes, etc. with PayPal. Because your acct does quite a bit of direct CC payments and PayPal has such strict account regiments (Freezing funds, limiting accounts, poor download log availability, rate increases and fees in 2008) I feel that you would be an ideal candidate. Some of the positive differences I have found with XXXXXXX are: * Very aggressive rates (We can beat PayPal) * Excellent, simplified real time reporting tools * Chargeback report that lists all CBs, outcomes, amounts etc * Account Management that is extremely hands on with onsite visits to your business as a priority * Product stability and support that are extremely impressive * Underwriting and Risk that are very Merchant friendly * Easy integration * Brick and mortar processing solutions
As you know the direct credit card processing fees have very limited wiggle room with any company. I do know that I was never able to get any Merchant very low DCC rates with PayPal; the same isnt true at XXXXXXX. I believe that with CC processing I can offer you a better rate, along with a host of extras in the way of service and support that I was not able to provide previously. I also believe that I can help you grow your TPV and business with XXXXXXXX, much further than I could with PayPal. Let me know if you would like to see the details on this and I will contact you with more information immediately. You wont need to discontinue your PayPal relationship if you choose, as we process Direct Credit Cards and this does not affect the Express Checkout relationship with PayPal.
Finally, just an FYI, many of my former accounts at PayPal are following me to XXXXXX and I would like to successfully count you among them! Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Today when I went to use my paypal debit card at a fast food drive thru, for a very small amount, the cashier said it was declined. While I knew that there was money in my account, I asked them to run it through again. When it was declined again, I called paypal to which I was told that card had been canceled. When I asked who had canceled it, the CS rep said that they had automatically closed it. Due to some cards # being part of a security breach. Of course I was upset since I had no knowledge of this...When I asked IF I was going to be notified of this, the response was she did not know. Told them that it was very embarassing to find this out when making a purchase for less than $5.00.
That was at about lunch today and I received the following email today at 4:30 p.m....Just wanted to know if anyone else got this email?
Below is part of what it said...
We have been informed that your PayPal Debit Card number may have been obtained by an unauthorized party as a result of a security breach at a merchant where your debit card was used to make a purchase. The security of your PayPal account information was not compromised in connection with this event. To help ensure your security, we have taken the proactive step of canceling your PayPal Debit Card. To request a new debit card, please follow the instructions below
Not sure who the merchant was? Sure would like to know, so I can make sure that I never use any kind of card there...Would like to hear from anyone else.
