Sweetheart Deal For eBay Motors and GM

Sweetheart Deal For eBay Motors and GM

Many users of eBay have been posting on eBay's Discussion boards as well as blogs around the internet discussing the apparent trend at eBay to push out the small seller. I firmly believe this, and just one more way to prove this theory is to look at the Sweetheart Deal agreement between eBay and GM.

About 2 weeks ago, the deal was announced by GM and eBay. This deal will put the entire inventory of GM's certified used vehicles on the eBay Motors site at NO COST to the dealers! Now, if I am an individual, selling a vehicle, the cost is $40 to list the item and $50 if the vehicle sells. $90 is not a bad cost for selling a vehicle, and in truth, I have sold vehicles on the site.

But why do I want to compete with GM dealers who by the way are not paying a DIME to list their vehicles?

Now I am sure that GM is bringing something to the table for eBay, but certainly whatever GM is doing for eBay will not help me sell my vehicle!

According to the news release some 3900 GM dealers could take advantage of this deal. Even supposing 1 vehicle per dealer, that equals $156,000.00 in listing fees alone. Suggesting a 30% sell thru rate, or 1300 (very very conservative) that would be an additional $65,000.00 in fees not including any additional features.

These are very conservative numbers and I am sure that the number of vehicles listed will be many times higher. Why not,,, it's free! And with more listed, more will sell!

Great deal for GM! Great deal for eBay, they get huge numbers! Bad deal for the little guy!
