Since new sellers who opened eBay accounts after Jan. 1st (I believe) are now required to have Paypal or a merchant account to sell (as of April 5th)........
What happens to the casual seller who does not need a merchant account (or cannot get one) and lists an item that is "local pick up" only? If the seller opens and uses Paypal for this - he/she has no means of being protected under the Paypal SPP because there is no way to prove delivery of an item that was picked up.
Are they pretty much **** out of luck? Do I see INR's raining from the sky or am I hallucinating? Did PayPal offer an ammendment for this situation?
By the way, Yahoo auctions have really picked up for me. I was suprised because I tried them a few years back with no luck. Seems they have more buyers now. Have also sold some things on WagglePop - and its FREE.
JMO, I bet they have not forseen that eventuality. If you email them, they will likely tell you to clean your cookies and cache. (LOL)
You might ask over on the PP board. There aresome good people over there who , IF they see it, can/will give reasonable answers.
Just watch out for that uh... what was the name.../ It was something like clinklawyer2K or something, dispensing some really non-factual, laughable blabber, on numerous occasions, then there is another "whinning parasite" or something like that, whom may call you a "thief", or "freeloader" or something if you do not use PayPal.
pssst, don't know if this has been suggested, but I hear some folks are simply selecting "merchant account" and using google checkout as their merchant account provider.
I have not tried it. If I feel the need to sell anything again on that sleazy, dangerous venue, I am grandfathered, and will/would use my own account, from my own bank, anyway.
In my area, I know a lot of folks who decided ebay is just not worth the hassle/headache/risks anymore. They donated tonnes o stuff to goodwill/salvation army, whatever, and got nice tax deduction receipts.
(BTW, goodwill has an online auction, shopgoodwill.com , and it is ABSOLUTELY GREAT, IMO It has not been overrun with fraud, scammers, hackers, lying, sleazebag white collar criminals etc...)
It appears that you can check the box for a merchant account. Not payfraud and get around this at this time.
Seeing as ebay don't bother to check on who is who anyway, I doubt they will go to the added expense to allocate resources to "verify" if sellers do indeed have a merchant account.
