EBay Pay Per Contact?

Is eBay planning to roll out ad listings for service providers? At a Silicon Valley event the other day, I overheard an eBay exec speaking with another attendee about a pay-per-contact ad platform for dentists, plumbers and other local services.

He said service providers would pay a nominal fee for each successful referral they get through the site. Considering how many search queries eBay gets in any given day, and how many of them must be for things that simply aren't available on an auction model, it's sounding like the company has realized there's another potential revenue stream waiting at its fingertips. eBay wont comment, even to confirm or deny. Is this something any of you ClickZ readers have caught wind of? Let me know.
