OMG!!! LMAO!!!

What a town meeting that was!

First, apparently the link on FireMeg's blog is broken, here is what I get from there.

(It sure looked for a second they had pulled the town meeting thread!!!
I have bolded or othewerwise highlighted some parts)

But anyway, you knock the crud off the end of the URL and you do get to the " March 29 Town Hall Question Thread"

I will have to admit, I did not read it all. I was too busy LMAO!!!

FireMeg dominated the discussion, IMO, firing of question after question after pointy question!

The one and only pink response was on page 7, right there, # 242

Hi All,

Regardin the February transcript, I'm still working on that. I had some technical issues that I'm trying to resolve with uploading the transcript to the archives page. I apologize for the delay and hope to have it up on the archives page soon.

Thanks for understanding.

Gianni

Here are just a few questions that went unanswered...

Vladuz recently alluded to an interview with CNN (on March 15th, I believe)....he then later emailed certain people and said that the interview was off. Did eBay contact CNN and threaten to sue if such an interview was done? If so, did eBay contact corporate at CNN or just intimidate the reporters involved?

Why does eBay's sign-in page include a style sheet that can be copied with the source code? This obviously makes creating a pharming page very simple. All scammers have to do is copy and past the code and the CSS comes along....so no need to even bother trying to match fonts in their fake pharming sign-in pages.

Whose idea was it to send letters (snoyce is who they were from at eBay) to ISP & webhosts & webmasters, intimidating them to remove certain items from their websites that was inconsistent with what eBay management wished to have known about certain issues?

Also, does eBay truly believe their statements that the FBI will act to stop these sites from publishing such content? ...even in foreign countries?

And finally on this note, did eBay actually ever contact the FBI about these foreign sites and if so, what was the FBI's response?

Why does eBay load banner ads before search results? Do you think that buyers come to eBay to shop for banner ads?

firemeg ) View Listings | Report Mar-27-07 05:44 PDT 187 of 259
Why does eBay have a major source of their banner advertising coming from companies that are in markets that are high targets of scams (mortgage companies, loan companies, diet pills etc.)?

How were some scammers who listed dozens, hundreds or thousands of auctions allowed to keep listing even after becoming NARU'd?

firemeg ) View Listings | Report Mar-27-07 05:46 PDT 189 of 259
Why was eBay unable to remove certain scam auctions from the site for hours and sometimes days after the user became NARU'd?

Why does eBay only offer listing sales near the end of the quarter?

firemeg ) View Listings | Report Mar-27-07 05:47 PDT 191 of 259
Why does eBay only send out press releases about listing number near the end of the quarter after the site is flooded with listings from listing specials?

firemeg ) View Listings | Report Mar-27-07 05:49 PDT 192 of 259
If listing sales serve the purpose (and we all know they do - thank god for them to keep revenue growth moving) of boosting revenue over a two week period enough to maintain growth and/or meet projections.....why not lower fees across the board permanently and give more incentive to list items on the site?

Has eBay fixed the alleged hole in Paypal that was described in a recent YouTube video that said to open two brower windows while making a purchase and make some changes to preferences in one window while paying in the other?

firemeg ) View Listings | Report Mar-27-07 05:52 PDT 194 of 259
YouTube removed the video...was this done at eBay's request?

HILARIOUS!!!

My questions relate to the massive amount of hijacked accounts and the damage they are doing to good sellers:

1. Why does eBay remove the entire auction of a seller if one bid was placed by a hijacked account, preventing the auction from continuing to completion or allowing the seller to present a valid Second Chance Offer to a legitimate under bidder?

Ebay allows auctions to stand when shill bidding has occurred, and doesn't remove the auction in it's entirety. Why the disparity?

2. Why doesn't eBay automatically refund both the listing fee and the FVF to a seller when their auction is removed because a hijacked account has created a TKO situation? Ebay isn't retaining any of the FVFs on auctions where they are removed because of hijacked account bids, are they?

Thank you.

Caped~

Another question, which derrives from news reports about Ebay and statements made by Ebay press spokespeople and executives ...

There has been a very specific Romanian "hacker" in the news lately concerning Ebay. Ebay has steadfastly stated that the individual in question has not gained access to Ebay servers or systems. Ebay has stated that he has not breached Ebay's security.

If that is true, why was it announced that law enforcement is trying to track him down and arrest him? What exactly would he be sought for?

And why did Ebay ask CNN not to run his interview?

Thank you.

Dear Mr Cobb,

When is ebay going to take the quite necessary step IMO of requiring significant identity verification of all new users? Will this ever happen?

When is ebay going to step up and better educate new users as likely the only way to help control the incredible rash of hijacked accounts and users who are being scammed on a daily basis? Will this ever happen?

Oh and while I'm here my missus would like to know.

When will ebay, instead of merely telling potential customers that "feedback will keep them safe", take the also necessary step and ban 1 cent BIN and other auctions that can only result in a seller losing money in listing fees and thusly are obviously designed for no purpose other than to manipulate that system to the detriment of users? Will this ever happen?

Thank you in advance

Will questions on this thread be carefully selected with the more difficult and potentially embarrassing ones being avoided wholly or in part? And is this a rhetorical question?

Questions regarding fraud:

1. We know that eBay has a tenuous relationship with instant money transfer services such as Western Union and Money Gram. Why doesn't eBay instead attempt to have an amicable working relationship with these companies, and work together to stop the transfer of funds to criminals?

2. How many fraudulent listings are TKO'd by eBay each week due to hijackings and fraudulently created accounts? How many accounts does this consist of on a weekly basis?

3. Thieves are now creating accounts on eBay Express and then listing on eBay. Are the same requirements necessary to register for both platforms?

4. Does eBay verify credit card, debit card, and banking information prior to allowing listings to be uploaded on its platforms? Besides matching account and routing numbers, is eBay verifying the name on the account?

5. Why is eBay not requiring thorough buyer education for all newly registered members? It should be mandatory to take and pass tutorials before having the ability to buy and sell. For that matter, eBay should require members to take refresher tutorials every 60 days.

6. eBay's T&S groups use third party intrusion detection software to determine if an account has been hijacked when reported via webform or to Live Help. Why is eBay not running this software 24/7/365 on all listings being downloaded onto eBay's platforms?

7. It was recently reported that 23% of all registered eBay members have been inactive for 1 year or more. Why is eBay not putting those accounts in suspense so that the hijackers don't have the ability to use those accounts and cut off the inventory? If an account is inactive for a minimum of 30 days, it should be suspended. The registered user can then answer the secret question to reactivate the account.

8. We know that FADE does not work well, so why doesn't the T&S group set up RSS feeds for specific key phrases and hijacker email addresses to find the fraudulent listings, fraudulently created accounts and hijacked accounts quickly instead of relying on the community to report them?

9. When is eBay going to eliminate penny listings?

10. Why doesn't eBay reprint the "category" a listing is in within the description in a large bold font so that members can easily see where the item is located in? The tiny font above the listing is barely noticeable. If members were more aware where the listings were located, believe me, it would put many of the thieves that hijack accounts out of business.

11. Why is eBay not sending out a monthly educational email to all members regarding how to protect themselves from fraud on eBay just like Overstock does?

12. When is eBay/PayPal going to remove all links from email messages and instead send out an email to say to check My Messages for email? This would certainly cut down the number of spoof and phish email messages.

13. When is eBay going to begin to enforce a detailed verification process for developers to insure that they aren't hackers? If I were going to allow developers to have access to my server, believe me, I would check them out and also make them secure a financial bond.

14. Why does eBay allow certain notifications to be turned off in Preferences? If members were required to receive listing and selling notifications to registered email addresses, they would know immediately if their accounts were hijacked. For that matter, why doesn't eBay have a similar notification for listing changes? In February thousands of listings were hacked by at least one thief with a contact message for Buy It Now. Had members who had their listings hacked by this thief been notified through eBay's message system, the members would have been able to take action.

15. Why is there not a warning message on the log in page to remind all members to not use instant money transfer services? This message should be in a large bold font.

16. Why is eBay not in contact with manufacturers to learn the release dates of items? The Nokia N95 cell phone was not available for sale until the end of February/beginning of March, yet thieves were listing the phone for sale as early as September. The same goes for the Apple I-Phone. It is being listed now by thieves, yet it will not be available for sale until at least June. eBay should not be allowing these items to upload until they are actually available for sale.

17. When is eBay going to begin taking a proactive stance towards fraud instead of a reactive one?

Can you give eBay users an absolute assurance that their email addresses and all other private information that members have trusted eBay with is not being sold by any eBay employee and has never been sold by any eBay employee?
Personally I do not believe that Valduz is from Romania or Italy. I believe some of the 'hacking' is coming from within eBay, but that is just my opinion.
It is my opinion also that Mr Cobb will be in deep doodoo if he chooses to answer only the soft questions.

How close is eBay coming to catching Vladuz?

What will be the charges? (considering eBay is denying that he really has done anything at all, but admit they are searching for him).

Does it bother you that members of the eBay community feel comfortable chatting with Vladuz on this and other discussion forums?

Or that he is turning into a folk hero?

Why after it was shown that the names and ID's and passwords on the Prosperpoint.com list were shown to still be active did eBay not contact them and continue to lie about it?

btw - has Hani Durzy been fired? Or at least sent for re-education?

Or friends in Germany tell us that ebay was contacted about a list of eBay userID's and passwords for sale on a Russian website. They report that eBay said they would do nothing about the issue (including contact members and/or lock down the accounts) until eBay's lawyers were able to weigh in.

Meg Whitman recently placed blame on several things for the rampant fraud on HER site.

She more-or-less blamed Microsoft, Yahoo!, banks and most heinous of all...eBay members!

Do you agree with her that it should be up to ISP's (some of them hundreds of times smaller or more than eBay) to implement changes and filters to prevent scam emails that look like eBay or Paypal emails, from reaching the unsuspecting users?

If so, why?

passionvine house in another post suggested that Bill Cobb should debate the poster called "Firemeg" on the 29th. Is there a chance that could happen or that at the very least he could answer all the questions raised by Firemeg? That would be awesome :)

Sad thing is that they don't really answer any questions that are asked unless it is to say we are working on it. Nor do I think that they really intend to do anything about any of it anyway.

It is a ploy - like pinks on their discussion boards- supposed to make the users feel better but usually actually accomplishes nothing.

Would like to see ebay and firemeg in a session where ebay couldn't run away and hide without answering questions! But we know that is not going to happen. Ebay don't have the guts!

I see that thread is still going.

I see some familiar people also asking some other pointy, valid questions.
[cough... Dan RuleZ... cough]

Do they post a transcript of the actual meeting actual audio somwhere?

(because there is no way in Hades I will sign into that wormwoody site these days.)

I think they may be up to 2 pink replies in that thread now.

But you are 1000%  right siriusblackop, they just do that to allow everyone to vent, it serves NO other purpose.

It is a lot like watching a weasel squirm in a steel trap. IT is getting harder to watch all the much more every day. (okay, maybe not)

Well I see the censors are busy removing anything which shows ebaY in IT's natural light; read: KOMMIE KRAPITALIST KLOWNS.

FireMeg has blogged it,and I am sure that others will too.

Trying to hide the fraud will not work! Bullying and intimidation will not work!

Again, it is time for everyone to forget complaining to sleazebay, and advising others to contact law Federal Law Enforcement.
(I mean everyone needs to advise folks posting with fraud related problems  on the "community discussion boards" to not waste their time with complaints to deaf ears, call the Feds. They need more complaints, but EbaY digs a deeper hole every hour, of every day.)

The fox is truly in charge of the henhouse.

note to sleazebay;

 IT WILL NEVER FLY!!!

NEVER!!!

EVER!!!

Stop the dumbsh IT  ~ NOW!!!

Time to do the right thing.
