Minister confirms shill bidding to be crime


It sure is odd that despite things like the above, plus recent Federal shill bidding prosecutions in the news in the USA, and similarly in the UK, we have ebaY sellers stopping by to let us know that shill bidding is legal, for them.

Oh, and still no answers from ebaY as to exactly when and why the policy was secretly changed?

Minister confirms shill bidding to be crime

Consumer affairs minister Craig Foss opened the ScamScape forum in Wellington this week discussing shill bidding - and confirming it is set to be explicitly outlawed under new consumer law.

"Shill bidding is a criminal offence in the new Consumer Law Reform Bill," Foss told ScamScape. "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated."

Talking more broadly, Foss noted that the value of online fraud in New Zealand is reported as being in the 100s of millions of dollars.
