Bookkeeper arrested in theft of more than $200,000

PROVO - An Orem woman was arrested Thursday after police say she took more than $200,000 from her employers.

Angela Erickson, 32, was hired by a couple in September 2006 to keep their books, according to a police report filed in the 4th District Court on Friday. After the theft was discovered, Erickson was fired in March.

The money was taken out of the couple's PayPal and checking accounts, using forged signatures as well as more than 16 credit cards. It was used by Erickson to pay car payments and other personal expenses, according to police. Erickson told police that she stole and sold off gold coins from the couple's safe.

In all, Erickson admitted to stealing $238,306.13 and is suspected of stealing $286,224.35, the report stated.

Erickson was booked for investigation of four counts of theft, a second-degree felony, 16 counts of unauthorized use of a financial transaction card and 78 counts of forgery, both third-degree felonies.

"The money was taken out of the couple's PayPal and checking accounts"

Oh my, how can that be when Paypal advertises they are the "SAFEST EASIEST WAY TO PAY"!

Paypal should also be counter-sued for failing to protect and misleading/fraudulent advertising.

And CLASS ACTION for their false advertising of "Safest Easies Way to Pay".  Talk about bait and switch!

Hahaha you'ree too funny. This is the internet, remember?

But seriously, remember the big stink Down Under when PP thought they would try to monopolize all paymemts on ebay.au?

Each and every one of their claims about safety etc were shot down.

They lied, lied, lied...
That is what ebay and paypal do best.
They even have outside companies hired to do their lying for them: Lieworld.

I probaly should make a live video demo showing everyone just how easy it really is to take over someone's Paypal account. rotflmao!!!

Just got a comment over at YT where someone has been scammed $9K, via PP account takeover, and natuarlly, Paypal is blaming them.

Hardly safe, honest or trustworthy, is it?
I mean when was the last time you heard of GCO for example, being hacked?

Edit:
I misspoke slightly here, it was very early in the morning... What the comment said was:

"... a seller scammed my Paypal account for thousands of dollars overnight last night Aug 9..."

see the comment here

UPS Driver, Wife Team Up to Steal Packages, Sell Merchandise on eBay

Posted by Hannah Atkin

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (CBS/AP) What can brown do for you? In the case of a former UPS driver and his wife accused of stealing packages from his employer and reselling their contents on eBay, it can get you probation or even jail time.

The couple pleaded no contest on Monday in Cape Coral, Florida.

Craig Podleski, 39, was charged with larceny of interstate commerce of more than $50,000 and sentenced to five years in prison.

Cheryl Podleski, 43, was charged with trafficking of stolen property and sentenced to five years probation.

The couple was arrested in August 2009 after Cheryl turned her husband into the authorities. Police later discovered that she was helping her husband sell the stolen goods online and was taken into custody as well, reports CBS affiliate WINK.

The former UPS driver is believed to have stolen more than $250,000 worth of items including rifles, handguns, flat-screen televisions, radios, samurai swords, watches, stereos, cigars and a marble-top kitchen island. The real mystery now is, how did no one see him steal a package the size of a marble-top kitchen island?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A Charleston couple are accused of using their children in a shoplifting scheme that involved stealing goods from stores in four states, then selling the merchandise online.

Ross and Lisa Knotts are charged with mail fraud in the scheme, which prosecutors say involved the theft and resale of about $80,000 worth of items including diabetes test strips, computer printers and video games over a nine-month period starting in the spring of 2009, according to U.S. District Court documents.

The couple used their three children to shoplift from Target stores from West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, then used Lisa Knotts' eBay account to sell the merchandise, according to federal court documents.

Ex-Mass. Town Employee Jailed For Theft

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (AP) A former North Andover municipal employee accused of stealing nearly $30,000 from the town has pleaded guilty to three counts of embezzlement by a town officer.

A Salem Superior Court Judge on Tuesday sentenced Joseph Lydick of Derry, N.H., to serve at least eight months of a two-year prison term. The rest has been suspended for three years with probation.

Lydick was arrested Nov. 16 and charged with selling surplus town property, including plows, trucks and other equipment, on eBay. Police say he wanted to use the money to buy his girlfriend an engagement ring.

Couple Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Mail Fraud
Posted Wednesday, August 25, 2010 ; 08:11 PM
Updated Wednesday, August 25, 2010; 11:25 PM

Husband and wife plead guilty to enlisting their children in $80,000 interstate shoplifting spree.

By Adrian Mosby

CHARLESTON -- Ross A. and Lisa A. Knotts of Charleston pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

According to an information filed, Aug. 19 2010, in federal court, they are accused of stealing merchandise from several Target stores. The filing further alleged they used their children to help steal the items. After taking the items the couple used the online auction site eBay to fence the goods, delivering them via the US Mail.

According to the federal prosecutor the Knotts used several methods to shoplift the various items. They would hide the items in their cart or stroller with the children, or they would have the children push the cart out of the store while they hid in the restroom, at other times they would have the children remove items from the store shelves and place them in the cart.

Over the nine months that the Knotts conducted their interstate theft operation, federal prosecutors believe that they stole and sold through eBay tens of thousands of dollars worth of diabetes testing strips, computer printers, and video and computer games.

The items were then sold from Charleston using Mrs. Knotts eBay account "alwaysfussin". The items were moved through more than 900 separate eBay auctions resulting in more than 900 stolen items being mailed through the Postal Service.

The family traveled to Target stores in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia.

Sentencing has been tentatively set by the court for Sept. 21, 2001.

Man with drugs jailed for selling car twice on eBay

Published Date: 01 September 2010
A man who admitted drugs offences and selling the same car to two different people was sentenced to 18 months behind bars. Robert Benvenga, 23, was linked to a car found in a car park at Leavesden Court, Abbots Langley.

When questioned by police about cocaine and cannabis found inside the vehicle he denied knowledge of them, but admitted that he had been a "custodian" of them for someone else when his fingerprints were found on the bags.

A court heard that Benvenga's family had fallen on hard times after the death of his father, causing the 23-year-old to assume the role of head of the family.

Defending, Charles Judge, said Benvenga had discovered debts that needed repaying that his family had not previously known about before his father's death.

"This situation arose when someone said to him: 'I have helped you, now you help me,'" he said.

St Albans Crown Court heard that Benvenga, of Hamilton Road, Kings Langley, had also admitted a charge of theft after selling a car twice on eBay.

Judge Andrew Bright heard that the defendant had sold the Audi A3 on eBay on Christmas Eve 2009 for £14,900.

However, the buyer returned it on several occasions claiming it was faulty.

On the final occasion it was returned, Mr Benvenga failed to return phone calls and it later emerged that he had resold the car to a woman in Bristol without returning the first buyer's money.

Last Thursday (August 26) Judge Bright sentenced him to 18 months for possession of 90.8g of cocaine with intent to supply, 12 months for possession of 237g of skunk cannabis, one month for a further charge of possession of cocaine, and six months for the theft of a car, all to run concurrently.

He said: "Those who warehouse Class A drugs are playing an important role in drug dealing. Those who agree to do this must realise that they face immediate custody if they are caught."

Take That ticket conman faces jail after selling £8000 of fake tickets

August 29 2010

A SERIAL conman is facing jail after selling £8,000 of fake Take That tickets on auction site eBay.

Jason Debney, 38, pocketed cash from up to 100 fans who had dreamed of attending the sell-out show at Birminghams NEC Arena.

But the Take That followers never got their tickets for the gig leaving them out of pocket and heartbroken.

Debney, of Walsall, admitted one count of fraud when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on August 23. He will be sentenced on September 20.

The case comes as Take Thats Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow release their reunion single, Shame, which is expected to top the charts.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how serial fraudster Debney had advertised scores of pairs of fake tickets on eBay after setting up an account in a false name.

He was deluged with buyers hoping to bag tickets for the much-awaited Take That concert in November 2007, which had sold out in record time.

In total, police were able to trace 11 victims who had between them lost £1,500 by purchasing the duds from Debney.

But the career criminal later admitted he had sold tickets to about 100 unwitting customers, netting him between £7,000 and £8,000.

Victims

Debney claimed he had intended to sell the tickets as "novelties" and had not set out to be dishonest.

But his eBay victims were lulled into believing they had purchased the real thing, after the fraudster sent them ticket reference and seat numbers for the NEC event.

As the date for the big gig drew closer, fans became suspicious after they failed to arrive in the post. Some contacted the NEC, only to be told their ticket numbers were non-existent.

A number who bought the fakes were able to claim compensation via the online Paypal system, or from their credit card company. But it is understood that 11 individuals, some of whom bought several tickets, still remain out of pocket.

The heartless scam is the latest in a long line of frauds committed by Debney. In October 2006 he was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court after pleading guilty to 13 counts of theft.

And in August 2002 the conman pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court to five counts of theft, four counts of obtaining property by deception and one charge of attempting to obtain property by deception. He was sentenced to 14 months jail.

Guy Dunstan, General Manager of NEC Arenas, said that he was sad to hear about the scam. "We were sorry to hear that some members of the public did not receive the tickets they thought they had purchased for the Take That Beautiful World Tour," he said.

"The NEC Group has stringent processes in place in order to protect customers from fraudulent ticket sales and actively engages with associations to combat the secondary ticketing market.

"We always advise customers to book their tickets through a reputable box office, such as The Ticket Factory which has been approved by the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers.

"We treat activity such as this extremely seriously and we actively support the Office of Fair Tradings 'Just Tick It' campaign, which means we adhere to a strict code of practice, providing clear and transparent information about the tickets on sale."

Debney refused to comment.

More arrests in Rogers Co. Burglary Bust

Posted: 09/07/2010

CLAREMORE, Okla - Two more suspects are behind bars in connection with an alleged serial burglary ring in Rogers County.

Last week 2NEWS told you about the arrest of Jason Conrad Lewis. Rogers County Sheriffs Investigators believe he is responsible for breaking into dozen of Rogers County homes.

On Tuesday, information from his arrest led the RSCO and Tulsa County Sheriffs Deputies to a home where they found property they believe was stolen by Lewis.

When Deputies served a search warrant at the Skiatook home of Patrick and Karri Medlin, they found a house filled with stolen loot - including dozens of stolen guns, motorcycle parts, saddles and a welding machine.

The Medlin's were arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail for knowingly concealing stolen property.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton says Tuesday's bust was the result of Lewis' arrest on August 28th.

Walton says Lewis would steal the property and the Medlin's would sell it on websites such as Ebay and GunBroker.com.

Walton says, "We know these are very active thugs that continue to victimize people, Rogers County, as well as surrounding counties and use the internet to market these items."

Even more stolen property was recovered last week from a home near Claremore where Lewis had been staying.

Several of those victims have already recovered their property. Deputies hope to be able to do the same for victims whose property was recovered on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office says more arrests are possible in connection with the investigation.

Conn. man faces charges for alleged eBay scam

50-year-old Rance Carli

Updated: Tuesday, 14 Sep 2010, 11:40 PM EDT
Published : Tuesday, 14 Sep 2010, 11:36 PM EDT

Salem, Conn. (WTNH) - A Salem, Connecticut man is facing charges for an alleged online scam. He's accused of selling motorcycles and cars that weren't his on eBay.

Right now we're standing in front of the home of the Salem man who state police say sold more than 245-thousand dollars worth of motorcycles and other vehicles on EBay. Those are vehicles state police say he didn't own or he never intended to deliver.

The 28-page affidavit, along with a second document, outlines an extensive investigation in which 50-year-old Rance Carli is accused of selling mostly motorcycles to a number of people -- one as far away as China -- and then never delivering them.

In some cases police say Carli refunded the money but the checks bounced.

The woman who answered the door at Carli's home on Mill Lane in Salem told News 8 she was a relative and that he wasn't home.

News 8s Tina Detelj: "Police say he was selling vehicles on EBay that didn't belong to him."

She didn't want to speak on Carli's behalf and said if he had anything to say he'd call us.

Carli is charged with six counts of 1st Degree Larceny and one count of 2nd Degree Larceny for what is considered an alleged eBay scam swindling nearly $250,000 from unsuspecting bidders.

"You're saying he's denying any wrongdoing or anything like that."

Her answer: "Positively."

He may not have been home to answer our questions Tuesday, but Carli is due in court later this month to answer to these charges.

SAN DIEGO - A former Coronado-based sailor was charged Tuesday with stealing tactical flashlights, laser-aiming devices, riflescopes and night- vision gear from the Navy and selling the items to customers on eBay.

Phillip Andro Jamison, 30, was arraigned in U.S. District Court in San Diego on a six counts, including trafficking in stolen government property and export of defense articles without a license.

The defendant pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Judge Jan Adler.

According to the indictment, Jamison was formerly a Gunner's Mate Petty Officer First Class stationed at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.

Jamison was assigned to work in his unit's armory, where he had access to military equipment, including sensitive equipment subject to United States export controls, the indictment alleges.

Between October 2008 and September 2009, Jamison allegedly stole more than 280 items from the Navy and sold them on eBay.

Ramsgate eBay fraudster jailed again

by Keith Hunt

An Ebay fraudster jailed in 2008 for hacking into email accounts is back behind bars - for doing it again.

Joe Rothfarb was said to be under financial pressures when he hijacked an account in the name of Kate Darlington.

He bought a Nintendo Wii and games being advertised on Ebay by Anthony Matcham for £449.99 in April last year.

Rothfarb appeared for sentence at Canterbury Crown Court having admitted fraud when he used Ms Darlington's account and securing unauthorised access to computer material with intent.

He was jailed for 15 months.

Prosecutor Andrew Collings said the offences were committed not long after his release from a 30 months sentence from the same court.

Then, he admitted unauthorised modification of computer material and deception by hacking into various accounts and obtaining just over £13,000.

Mr Matcham discovered he'd been duped when he checked his PayPal account to check the money had been transfered to his own account.

He had arranged with a man who called him about buying the Wii, that the caller's cousin would collect the goods and he met Rothfarb at Ramsgate station and handed the items over believing the money was in his account.

When he checked his computer the following morning he found PayPal had put a hold on the money suspecting it was a fraudulent transaction as it was an unconfirmed emailing address and the account was in the name of Kate Darlington.

She was refunded but Mr Matcham was out of pocket because PayPal would not reimburse him as he had let the items go before confirming the transaction.

He called the police who discovered Ms Darlington's Ebay and PayPal accounts had been taken over by a third party to buy goods and passwords changed.

It did not take the police long to get back to Rothfarb at Queens Road, Canterbury.

He was arrested and made full admissions saying he was under immense pressure because of a car loan he could not pay back and a £7,000 debt to his mother.

PERSISTENT GUITAR OWNER FINDS HIS STOLEN AX ON EBAY EIGHT YEARS LATER
September 21, 2010
(NATIONAL) -- Have you had your home broken into recently? Did you lose things of great monetary or sentimental value?

Then take a page from the book of Doug Duncan and never stop checking on the popular Internet auction sites even if its almost a decade later.

Duncan is the owner, or was the owner, of a vintage Gibson Les Paul Special guitar that was stolen eight years ago.

He found it recently on eBay for sale.

Duncan, a 57-year old musician, told police he never gave up looking for his classic and now very expensive - 1957 guitar after it was stolen in rural Minnesota.

In fact years ago he signed up to get e-mail notifications from eBay whenever similar guitars went up for sale on the popular auction site.

Then lo and behold he got an alert from eBay last month that a similar guitar had been listed by a seller in Mill Valley, California and Duncan realized from the serial number it was his guitar that had been stolen those 8 years ago.

He contacted police who interviewed the seller who turned out to be a collector of guitars. He told police he had no idea it was stolen.

Nordstrom Employee Arrested for Sleeping at Store, Stealing Merchandise, Selling it on eBay

Updated: Tuesday, 28 Sep 2010, 4:57 PM CDT
Published : Tuesday, 28 Sep 2010, 4:55 PM CDT

Sun-Times Media Wire

Skokie, Ill. - When Carlo F. Settecase, an employee of a north suburban Nordstrom's store, was found sleeping under his desk one morning, security got suspicious. And when another employee noticed thousands of dollars in merchandise missing, video images confirmed those suspicions.

According to Skokie police, Settecase, 21, a switchboard operator at the store, hid under his desk and stayed in the store after closing on Sunday, Sept. 5. He then donned dark clothing including gloves and a ski mask, and spent the next five hours wandering the store and stealing items.

Settecase, of Skokie, placed the stolen items into a mail tote and placed the tote in the mail room, according to Skokie Police Officer Tammy Jacobsen. The next day, he took the boxes out of the store, located in the Westfield Old Orchard mall.

Among the items stolen were clothing, purses, jewelry, fragrances and cosmetics, Jacobsen said, and after his arrest, Settecase "was selling the items on eaBay," she said. An eBay account in his name was found to be offering high-end cosmetics that were among the items taken from Nordstrom's.

The plan started to come apart when a cleaning crew found Settecase sleeping under his desk about 2 a.m. on Sept. 6. He explained he worked there and had nowhere else to stay. He told the same story to another employee who found him under the desk around 8 a.m.

But when an "alert" employee noticed several items missing from the store, Skokie police were called. Management told police about Settecase being in the store overnight, and under questioning, he admitted his crime, Jacobsen said.

Police later recovered of $29,296 in merchandise from his parents' home, where he lived, she said.

While Settecase's overnight spree is recorded on video, it may never be known much he got overall, Jacobsen said. "So far we have one night on video, but other items were found in his home" and it was unknown how long the scheme had been going on.

He was charged with felony retail theft and released after posting bail, she said. He is next due in court Oct. 1 in Skokie.

Ian Fuller ran stolen goods 'assembly line' on eBay

A JOBLESS father-of-three took part in a year-long crime spree and sold thousands of pounds-worth of stolen wheel-trims on eBay.

Police received more than 60 reports of theft from motorists in the Darlington area throughout last year, a court heard on Friday.

When officers raided the home of Ian Fuller, they found "an assembly line" of car parts, said Christopher Williamson, prosecuting.

Mr Williamson told Teesside Crown Court that cleaning materials and tins of silver spray paint were also discovered.

A search of Fullers computer revealed £5,735-worth of wheel-trims had been sold on the internet between January and November.

In interview, the 34-year-old said some of the sales had been genuine, and insisted that he had made just £200 from the enterprise. Fuller claimed an associate from Darlington who did not have an eBay account or computer encouraged him to get involved in the scam.

He took police to 32 locations in and around the town where the thefts had taken place and made confessions, Mr Williamson said.

Robin Turton, mitigating, said Fuller was under enormous financial pressure when he "stupidly" agreed to take part in the crime spree.

He said the former electrical worker was "terrified" at the prospect of going to prison because of the impact it would have on his family.

Mr Turton told the court that two of Fuller's children have autism and his wife has bipolar disorder, and he is the chief carer for them all.

"Through stupidity and this overwhelming sense of financial desperation, because the outgoings were not meeting the income, he let himself be involved in this criminal enterprise.

"This is not a case, for example, where there were enormous sums frittered away on luxuries in life," Mr Turton told Recorder Michael Slater.

"This is somebody who was in financial straits and he had considerable obligations, and the money just went to make ends meet."

Fuller, of **** Lane, Piercebridge, near Darlington, was given a 12-month suspended prison sentence after he admitted conspiracy to steal.

The judge told him: "If you breach it you will be brought back before this court and you'll be going to jail straight away in all likelihood."

Piece of Hickman history finally located in Indiana

The case of the missing Hickman church bell has come to a ringing conclusion. It was found in Indiana after being purchased on eBay.

Several area residents called the church after a story on the theft appeared in The Bee on Sept. 17. Those calls led to a thrift store, then to the eBay auction. In the end, it appeared someone with ties to the church took the heavy bell, which measures about 3 feet by 3 feet, saying he thought it was abandoned junk.

The historic bell from Hickman Community Church was cast in France and traveled by ship around Cape Horn to San Francisco, where a 12-mule wagon took it to the church in 1891.

Police: Paramedic sold stolen ultrasound machines on eBay

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

The Pennsylvania State Police arrested veteran paramedic Juan Torres on multiple counts of felony theft.

Torres, 44, from Glenolden is charged with stealing multiple state of the art portable ultrasound machines and selling them on eBay, specifically the Sonosite Titan Ultrasound machines.

"It looks like he sold up to, possibly, 15 ultrasound machines and the one in our case was valued at about $35,000," State Trooper John Sunderlin said.

Police say Torres' asking pice on eBay for the machine was under $7,000.

They traced one stolen from Riddle Memorial Hospital to a doctor in Argentina.

In June 2009, Torres worked as a paramedic at Riddle.

Riddle officials reported their Sonosite Titan missing during that same time frame.

Main Line Health owns Riddle and the Paoli Hospital, where two ultrasound machines were reported stolen in late October 2007.

According to eBay records, at least one of those Sonosites went up for sale on eBay a few days later.

Torres also worked at a private ambulance company located in Feasterville, Bucks County. The criminal complaint says that gave Torres access to Doylestown Hospital's emergency room where two Sonosite ultrasound machines were stolen last spring.

Police have traced both to sales on eBay from a seller called bioteched.

"Everything was related to his eBay account; investigation showed that through those eBay accounts, we were able to trace who he sold the ultrasound machines to," Sunderlin said.

As Torres headed to the Delaware County Prison Wednesday night, his bail was set at $50,000 with State Police still looking for up to 10 more ultrasound machines he allegedly advertised on eBay.

Federal Way woman charged in eBay, Craigslist car sale scam

By LEVI PULKKINEN
SEATTLEPI.COM STAFF

A Federal Way woman accused of bilking would-be car buyers out of thousands of dollars in an online scam is facing felony theft charges.

King County prosecutors claim Allison Renee Ohlson, 23, "sold" at least three cars through Craigslist, eBay and a Canadian car website, then failed to deliver the goods.

In each case, according to charging documents, Ohlson posted photos of cars that did not belong to her and offered the vehicles for sale. Buyers wired her money, prosecutors contend; she never delivered the cars.

Following a contact from a Texas sheriff's office, a Federal Way detective began investigating Ohlson, whose name was attached to the bank account where the money was wired, according to charging documents.

Reviewing Ohlson's account, the detective reportedly saw several large deposits -- the Texas woman's $11,500 payment meant for a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, and previously unknown deposits of $13,400 for a 2009 Jeep Rubicon and $13,551 for a 2008 Ford F-150 Ranch King pickup.

The deposits were described in court documents as the agreed purchase price for each vehicle. All of the vehicles could be expected to sell for thousands of dollars more.

On June 29, a Secret Service agent accompanied the Federal Way detective as they contacted Ohlson where she worked, a Federal Way Walmart.

Confronted by the investigators, Ohlson allegedly claimed she herself had been a small part of a larger scheme, according to charging documents. She claimed to have "loaned" her bank account to a man but said she was unaware of the nature of the fraud.

"She knew she was acting as an accessory in some form of illegal activity," the Federal Way detective told the court. "Ohlson stated that she went ahead with it anyway, because of the kickbacks she received.

"She admitted that she did not want to know specifics regarding what she was getting herself into and expected that police would get involved at some point."

The detective said Ohlson claimed to have kept a percentage of the deposits for herself, then wired the rest of the money to "someone in Italy." Attempts by investigators to verify that claim, though, came up empty.

Ohlson was charged with three counts of first-degree theft. She has not been jailed in the case.

eBay seller raided for stolen goods

RARE and expensive sports equipment stolen from a North-East car has been returned to its rightful owner after it was put up for sale on internet auction site eBay.

Police raided a Darlington house and recovered the two rare archery bows and accessories after the victims spotted a small piece of the gear up for sale - from a seller living in the same town.

The perpetrator, who has not been named by police, was given a caution for handling stolen goods and almost all the equipment, worth a total of £1,500, was recovered.

The equipment had been imported from America and would have been almost impossible for the victims to replace.

Investigating officer PC Amanda Holland advised the victims, a family of archery enthusiasts, to check the auction site regularly after the equipment was stolen from a car in the West End on August 22.

The victims checked the site daily and spotted a piece of equipment, identical to one of the parts stolen, on a 24-hour auction on Friday of last week.

They contacted the police, and PC Holland got in touch with eBay to access the sellers address, before obtaining a court order to raid the house.

A swoop on the seller's house in the Eastbourne area of the town, less than two miles from where the equipment was stolen, recovered all but one small part of the missing gear.

The seller was arrested, admitted to handling stolen goods, and was cautioned.

PC Holland said the case was a good example of the police working with victims and eBay to get the right result.

"It is difficult for the police to look on eBay for every single item stolen - it would take too much time. Also, the victims know exactly what they are looking for.

"I was immediately suspicious because the equipment is virtually unique, the seller was in Darlington and it was a 24-hour auction.

"People selling stolen goods on places like eBay is getting more and more common.

"I think this case sends a message to anyone thinking about selling stolen goods on eBay and also shows how we can get a good result when we all work together."

Wedding show faker pleads guilty to fraud, ID theft

By Laurel J. Sweet
Friday, October 8, 2010 -

A Pittsburgh woman with nearly a dozen aliases pleaded guilty yesterday to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft for scamming thousands of brides-to-be by fabricating a Web site for a bogus March wedding exhibition that was purportedly to take place at Hynes Convention Center.

Karen Tuckers future is not as bright as the trusting marks she led astray with the phony business she called Boston 411. She faces more than four years in federal prison when shes sentenced Jan. 12 in U.S. District Court.

The Herald reported in March that the betrayed betrothed paid up to $15 per ticket to plan their dream weddings, while at least 200 vendors lost out on between $350 and $4,000 each to reserve booths, in addition to booking flights and hotel rooms.

Yow! More good reasons to never use ebaY! You truly don't know what you may get involved with.
As of yet, no word what sleazebaY did with it's cut.

Associated Press - November 3, 2010 10:15 AM ET

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Federal authorities say a Rochester businessman hired thieves and sold a big assortment of their stolen goods on eBay, including comic books taken from a roughed-up dealer who later died of a heart attack.

Rico Vendetti, the owner of a tavern and a restaurant, was arrested Tuesday and charged with racketeering and transporting hundreds of thousands of dollars of stolen goods across state lines.

The 41-year-old Vendetti was charged with burglary last month in a July 5 break-in at the home of 77-year-old Homer Marciniak (mar-SIN'-ee-ak) in small-town Medina.

Police say thugs roughed up Marciniak and took his comic book collection valued at $40,000 to $100,000. He suffered a fatal heart attack later that day. Vendetti and a Rochester teenager have been charged with burglary for the break-in.

Hilarious!
Rappin' hacker-scammers! From Texas no less.
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

Rapper WILLIE D has been sentenced to a year in prison after he was convicted on wire fraud charges.

The Geto Boys member, real name William James Dennis, was arrested in Texas in May last year (09) over allegations he had been setting up fake sales on auction website eBay.com between 2008 and 2009.

The hip-hop star is said to have conned more than $132,000 (£88,000) out of unsuspecting customers who thought they were buying iPhones and other electronic gadgets. He was found guilty of receiving the cash for the products but never supplying the goods.

He appeared in court in Texas on Tuesday (02Nov10) and was sentenced to a year behind bars. He was also ordered to pay $194,087 (£129,391) in restitution.

Dennis is currently free on bond until officials decide where he will serve out his sentence.
