I thought I'd start a little Q&A thread to answer some questions I've received here and in email. Feel free to ask what you like and I'll do my best to answer.
Why isn't this board moderated? Why is vulgar language allowed?
I opened this board with the ability of free speech. There are limitations on what can be said on the eBay boards, regardless of the truth it holds. Vulgar language is never pretty, but is a way in which some people express themselves and their feelings. This forum is listed with the host as an "adult forum" and on the website I have noted that by entering the forum you must be 18 or above to enter. Being that this forum revolves around people who use or have used PayPal and you must be 18 to use PayPal, I feel secure that there are only adults using it.
When you get in to moderating any board, it sometimes is a very thin line in moderating the things you are personally against or things that break forum rules, especially since I am against PayPal. In no way would I ever want this board to become one sided. The "anti's" are not allowed to speak freely on the eBay boards so who am I to stop a "pro" from coming here and speaking freely? I would be no better than them.
I run several forums and websites, so if by chance this one gets shut down, I will move it to a paid service where it won't be. But I have followed the regulations of the host so far by listing it in the correct categories so that this should not happen.
If language truly gets to be a problem with the members here, we will deal with that as the problem arises. However, language would be the only thing moderated out (if it came to that) and comments would stay. That is the only way to be fair.
Do you think that CAPP will be seen as a joke?
I think the CAPP board is a very small part of the CAPP website and that the members here will appreciate the free speech that they don't have elsewhere. It took a while to get the website up and there is still more being done. The hope is that CAPP alerts consumers to the various documented risks of using PayPal, their poor customer service, and the other options available to them.
Why is it so hard to find CAPP?
Until now, CAPP has been a private board. It was not submitted to any search engines. With the CAPP website up, it has now been submitted to all major search engines and should be available by search within the next few weeks.
How does CAPP handle member privacy?
Your privacy is important here. No ones IP address will ever be presented on the board or anywhere else. No personal information or email addresses will ever be given out unless it is by you doing so privately. I want members to feel comfortable using the CAPP board while knowing that their privacy is respected. Any personal information (home address, phone number, things like that) that is posted here will be removed and the posters account will be deleted. I will not tolerate anyone posting personal information on this board.
Why are there no rules here?
There will be a "rules" thread coming in the next day or so. The board will still be unmoderated for comments.
Who is CAPP run by?
That is no ones business who doesn'r already know.
Is CAPP funded or supported in any way?
No. Strictly volunteer.
Does CAPP use outside help?
We are currently discussing the possibility of adding people who would be interested in reporting on security breaches and cunsumer issues regarding PayPal and eBay. We will ask for volunteers if that happens.
