A ruling by the European Court of Justice rules that eBay cannot claim exemption for goods listed on its site.

Ever scrolled though eBay in search of designer loot and been wooed by a pricetag that's almost too good to be true? Looking bona fide in a few small snaps, it's only once the item arrives that you realise you've been tricked into purchasing an item that's a million miles away from its luxury original.
eBay has tried to claim exemption from liability for counterfeit goods sold on its site, but the European Court of Justice today ruled that brand owners will be able to initiate legal proceedings if the likes of eBay and other online marketplaces allow counterfeit goods to be sold.
