An anonymous reader sends along a posting from the Grooveking blog on a group of Stanford students who got together to help promote Firefox and ended up releasing a long overdue eBay Toolbar for Firefox before Mozilla and eBay could release their jointly developed extension in Europe. Mozilla's COO said the preemptive release of the eBay Toolbar had ruffled some feathers among European eBay execs.
"Besides basic search features, it removes external ads on the site and allows users to see thumbnail pictures on ALL search items, even those sellers didn't pay for. An eBay toolbar has been long overdue... eBay can't be too enthusiastic about this toolbar since it cuts directly into its main sources of revenue: ads and thumbnail fees. But eBay users get a really good deal."
There are a couple examples of other places adding garbage along with the FF goodies, so be aware. Again, not saying or inferring that is the case here by any means. It takes a bit to get the extension up on the add-ons page.
If you need to change your permissions for which sites are allowed to install software, you may want to research a bit before you allow.
Fact is, it is ridiculously easy to make something like this, (or whatever you want,) yourself anyway.
It did work well, and has lots and lots of features.
Personally, I hate anything which has it's own stupid extra toolbar to clutter up my screen.
I like the stuff I cobbled together myself better. I have booklmarklets which, when you highlight a word or words, search ebay and open the page in a window either maximized, or minimized, or a tab in the background. If no text is highlighted, a window to type your terms into appears. You can find good ones at the rockboss2000 about me page, then modify them to suit you or take the bits you want from his code, is how I did it. I also have slimsearch extension, which opens in a foreground tab.
By using bits of code and the search bookmarlets generator, within 10 minutes you can make your own ebaY search tools.
All the rest of what it included are already bookmarked or easy to get to (for me.)
One thing I did notice, in the tools area, there was a link/ menu item for "reinstate acccount"
Hilarious!!!!
Makes it handy when the buffoons from greedbay nix you for using your own pix, or they claim they did not get your automatically deducted paypal funded ebay fees payment or whatever, and you get NARUd like 3 times in 2 weeks for their mistakes/incompetence, & they won't even bother reading your emails.
IDIOTS!!!
Seems those students have used ebaY alot, & know IT well...
