RE: eBay Forces eChecks Payments, Buyers Beyond Irked

All indications are that ebayPal is losing biz o'plenty over this 'glitch' -along with the bogus $10K (or whatever amount) "give us your bank account info or else" scam.

People who keep using ebayPal can expect to get abused and cheated even more as they will need to squeeze more and more from less and less people.

It took only one payment "glitch" to make me cease buying from eBay until PayPal fixes their "glitch".

I saw the April 19 post by PayPal_Frank but until I see one from him confirming that it's fixed, no more transactions from me.

What have we here? First time I've seen MasterCard specifically mentioned as being turned down.

I can't pay!

Apr 24, 2013 05:19 PM

Unfortunately, your payment was declined by your card issuer. Please use a different credit card or bank account to complete your PayPal Payment.

And then it tells me my MasterCard can't be used...

I have plenty of money in my bank, I just checked... And I just bought something yesterday too...

I'm trying to buy this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170975046455?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Sorta in panic mode... I always pay immediately, and I used to have an account with 200+ feedback, I quit using eBay, but returned last week with a new account. So I know what I'm doing, but what is this?

You know, another thing I can't help but notice is that the paypal helper's advice might not seem to mesh very well with this new policy regarding contacting sellers post sale, which is claiming victims left and right. It seems that if buyers contact sellers to send an invoice due to this glitch it may well result in a bad buyer experience  case being filed against the seller.

Interesting.

eBay Sees Dramatic Rise in Opened Cases Against Sellers

eBay sellers are experiencing a dramatic rise in the number of opened cases filed against them by buyers, thanks to a major change eBay implemented as part of the Spring Seller Release. Similarly, eBay buyers are reporting that when they simply try to ask their trading partners a question, they discover to their surprise that eBay immediately opens a case against the seller on their behalf. ...

^ article continues at link.

See my tweetstream for more observations on that new policy.

Here's a little insight into the mindset and level of customer service quality at PaYpal's own help forums. It looks like PayPal Frank, Administrator must think the glitches are funny.

Look at the choice of emoticons in the message. It looks like uproarious laughter to me. At least a LoL or  "Laughing out Loud" as per the mouth fully agape

fwiw, the properties of the image read "Smiley Very Happy".

However, I'm not sure how many upset paypal victims will be mousing over that?  Time may be better spent cancelling sales, closing accounts, and shopping other sites, using other payment services who aren't constantly broken down, and don't misrepresent about every little thing?

What is there to be smiley very happy about anyway in light of the duration, impact and obvious improper circumstances surrounding the handling and/or explanations of these mysterious, overlapping glitches?

If you click through, you'll see people are beyond upset.

When are we going to get any answers on the Pay After Delievery Issue?

more glitches.. add credit card.

this topic was started back on April 6, 2013. It's suggested there to contact your credit card company and let them know paypal is forcing echecks, and denying your right to use a credit card, while prominently displaying their logos etc.

There's been an awful lot of this type and worse posting going on lately at the ebay community forums. It's interesting that while these glitches all overlap in time, one cannot help but wonder within or upon what other dimemsions and/or planes they might?

SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH USING PAYPAL FOR 3 WEEKS still

Apr 22, 2013 11:52 AM

Have the same problem of being prompted to add a credit card to my paypal profile in order for the transaction to go through.  Already have three valid cards on my profile.  I am done shopping on ebay until this is resolved.  Amazon purchases go through just fine, so this is between ebay and paypal, and neither is capable  of taking care of it.  HUGE problem and loss of business for ebay sellers!!!

The echeck fiasco is growing and mutating, becoming more horrific by the passing day, as expected. It is ebay/paypal after all. muahahaha

Now also 'pay after delivery', Bill[k] Me later reported affected, and even payment options vanishing completely have been reported, along with endless requests to add credit cards, where the users have more than one valid current card on file with eb-pp, verified and all.

The checkout and paypal forums are pretty lit up.

If you clicked through above to see ebaypal's statement, it doesn't appear this will ever be explained properly nor resolved satisfactorily.

But here's a very interesting post/report:

(I've broken this up and added bolding for emphasis)

echeck outrage!

Apr 21, 2013 04:36 PM

today when I tried to pay an invoice it went through as an echeck rather than instant credit card payment. I spent over 45 min.

Talking with paypay, who claimed it was a bug and said it happens if seller sends [an] ebay rather than paypal invoice. They said they could not cancel payment and to ask seller to cancel payment. So I tried to email seller but ebay blocked the message because it had the word echeck in it!

Phoned ebay. Ebay also claimed they could not cancel payment and suggested I phone seller, who now has to wait 3 to 5 days for payment. And ebay said I should call my bank to stop payment! This would cost almost as much as the purchase. Plus ebay wanted a fee for me to stop payment through my bank too!

I have had it with ebay and paypal right now. It is an outrage. Perhaps it is time for people myself included to stop using ebay, file some kind of class action, or let the ftc know. I do not believe they can't fix this bug or fix things that are their errors. The benefit is always in their direction. I have been a loyal ebayer but do not believe the echeck change is a bug.
