ebaY Want It Now Borked!

Uploaded by cappnonymous on Oct 6, 2011

ebaY's "want it now" site has been down since around September 24th or so. No official announcement from ebay. The outage appears to have affected the main ebay.com site as well as ebay.au and ebay.uk, according to reports on ebay's community forums Technical Issues board. It's also being reported that ebay's offshore customer service doesn't have any knowledge whatsoever as to the very nature of "Want it now"

ebay want it now, down for the count?

According to a post on ebay community forums, ebay made a staement on their facebook page around or before Sept 27th:

"Want it Now is being retired and removed, and will not be fixed or updated."

WANT IT NOW

I wasn't able to find that alleged statement, but "want it now": http://ebay.com/wantitnow/

has been redirecting to the main page for quite some time. Maybe since around September sometime. Maybe the same time they went down last year?  It's right in keeping with ebaY to not announce this type of thing since it holds no (or negative) PR value. It fits their pattern of behaviour well.

The redirect to home page instead of announcement landing page is pretty damned unprofessional. wow!

Another nice addition to ebaY's forgotten failures and PR scams, along with the recent, similarly silent demise of the ebay pulse.

They're stacking up!

LoLz!

It really looks as if Want it Now is gone for good. It's even been removed from the ebaY site map at this time.

As I mentioned above, that's highly unprofessional to just discontinue a service which folks used without any notice whatsoever.  At least a few people are asking about it.

Where are all my (over 150) "want it now" listings?

Great job sleazebay! The new sleazebay promises to be even more dysfunctional, while offering a reduction in range and quality of services at increased cost and less ease of operation than the old sleazebay!
